About Tbilisi

Tbilisi – «warm spring” – the capital and largest city of Georgia. Located on the bank of the river Mtkvari (Kura). Tbilisi name was first mentioned in IV century. Its appearance is attributed to the presence in the warm sulfur springs (Georgian tbili – “warm”). Until 1936 the name was used Tbilisi. On August 20, 1936 as the official form was adopted Tbilisi, is closer to the sound of the national title.

About Mtskheta

About Jvari

Jvari (груз. word for word. “cross”) – Georgian monastery and church VII century (the period between 605 and 642 years.). Located on a hilltop at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi near Mtskheta – where, according to historical sources (“Appeal of Georgia,” “Life of Kartli Kings”), erected a cross holy Equal of the Apostles Nina. Jvari – one of the masterpieces of architecture for the perfection of architectural forms and the first in Georgia World Heritage Site.
